Local Liberian Trench Gang / Mandingo Hill Sampling saprolite every meter in trench / Mandingo Hill Geologist mapping Trench Walls / Mandingo Hill

Liberty’s Mandingo Hill Prospect is located at the edge of the Todi Shear Zone less than a one hour drive from the capital city of Monrovia. Alluvial gold mining activity in the region was followed up by Liberty geologists with a geochemical soil program, trenching and a subsequent short diamond drill 12-hole program for a total of 964 meters based on geochemical responses alone, without the additional guidance of a geophysical program.

The best intercepts were in BODD011 with 5.9m at 7.19 g/t including 0.9m @ 35.85 g/t gold;  8.4m @ 4.6 g/t including 4.6m @ 6.65 g/t and 1m @ 21.85 g/t gold; and 0.7m @ 58.53 g/t gold.

The Mandingo Hill area is underlain by granitic gneiss, dolerite and granodiorite intrusives. The dolerite outcrops in a few areas of the prospect.

The granodiorite observed is slightly weathered. Grab samples (of amphibolites?) have been observed in the heaped material at the Mandingo Hill workings.

The in situ material observed on the wall of the mined pits is weathered and mixed up with the melanocratic granitic gneiss. The amphibolites show intense weathering with fuchsite and carbonate alterations with abundant fine to medium grained disseminated pyrite.

Sheared, foliated granitic gneiss host material / Mandingo Hill
Sheared, foliated granitic gneiss which
has a network series of cross cutting joints

The rocks in the area dip moderately to the west and generally trend NE - SW. This has been confirmed by the trench mapping. Regionally, the area is characterized by NW - SE structures but this has not been observed in the field. Shear foliation in the granitic gneiss is due to the alignment of the abundant mica minerals. This structure is crosscut by a series of joints. The structurally deformed granitic gneiss has been observed to carry gold mineralization. The jointed fractures are in-filled with carbonates and occasional amounts of hematite and pyrite which serve as pathfinders for gold mineralization in this area.

Drilling on site / Mandingo HillDetailed mapping and the geochemical analysis of results from trench and grab samples indicates that the mineralization is possibly not lithologically controlled, but intense carbonate - chlorite - hematite alterations with disseminated sulphides (pyrite) and quartz stringers are the controlling factors. Silicification is also evident. Pink albite - hematite appears to have some influence on the mineralization but that is still being evaluated.

The anomalous zones deduced from the 9 trenches indicate there are two trends of mineralization on Mandingo Hill. That is: the NE - SW (025º mag) trend and the NW - SE trend, which is parallel to the strike of the Todi Shear Zone.

Geologists examining core prior to splitting and sending for assay / Mandingo HillLiberty’s Mandingo Hill Prospect is located at the edge of the Todi Shear Zone less than a one hour drive from the capital city of Monrovia. Alluvial gold mining activity in the region was followed up by Liberty geologists with a small soil program, trenching and a subsequent short diamond drill program of 964 meters based on the geochemical responses alone, without the additional guidance of a geophysical program. To June 30, 2008, a total of 4,726 samples, including 1,062 drill samples, have been collected and further exploration of the property is planned.

The short exploratory drill program of less than 1,000 meters, without the additional guidance of geophysics, Moving the rig for the next target hole / Mandingo Hillresulted in hitting some degree of mineralization in all 12 short holes. As already stated, the best intercept was in BODD001 with 22 meters @ over 7 g/t Au, including 1m @ 21.85 g/t, 0.9m @ 35.85 g/t and 0.7m @ 58.53 g/t, and 5.9m at 7.19 g/t Au and 8.4m at 4.46 g/t Au. However, it is believed that the main target may have been missed. Liberty intends to resume drilling after more systematic exploration is completed.

Anomalous drill and trench results are shown in the tables below.

Goban Mountain alluvial flats mining sites

The Goban Mountain region about 21/2 km to the south of the
Mandingo Hill is another large alluvial deposit area
that Liberty has been exploring on.
